Perfect is the enemy of good.

It’s January 2nd and I still haven’t taken a “perfect” or a “good” photo of my Christmas tree.  I have a few of the tree before ornaments but I don’t have one of my decorated tree, a tree that I really liked this year.  For a while it was because I didn’t have all the ornaments on, then it was more about waiting for a new photo print in an existing frame near the tree, then there was the clutter, and also issues with wanting the lighting to be perfect.  Anyway, I did enjoy my tree even though I didn’t really do it photographic justice (maybe it’s not too late).  It certainly doesn’t look like a magazine photo or even something that I would typically think of posting on my blog.  My goal for 2013 is to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good, for photography and life in general.  Changes are coming this coming year!  My “baby” will be starting kindergarden in the fall and I will be taking a class, a nursing refresher course to update myself in the latest in nursing practice and brush up on my skills and knowledge prior to returning to work as a nurse.  I do miss it, a lot.  I’m not sure how many photo sessions I’ll be able to take this year, but look forward to photography in the coming year.  Thank you for reading and joining me on here.  I’m planning on more frequent, more candid blog posts that likely won’t be “perfect” in the coming year.  Happy New Year!!

December 2 {Family lifestyle challenge}

December 2 and I finally took a photo of my kids together!  More posed than “lifestyle” but this is what we did today.  I actually had to schedule this on my calendar to make sure I got it done!   I’m not sure if this is the one I will use for my Christmas cards but today it’s my favorite.

Wow, they’re all looking AND smiling! Love their outfits, too :)

Sweet kids! Nice photo!

Photo of the Week {Change}

Wow, time flies!  Next week my baby will turn 5!  I searched and search for this side by side comparison.  When I took the photo on the right this morning, I knew I had taken something similar in the past.  It was fun going through all of those old photos and amazing how much has changed over the years.

Next in the blog circle this week is Cara of Mischief and Laughs Photography !

I love the side by side comparison. I just stared at it for a while looking to see the similarities and the changes…what a beautiful child!

Wow, what a beautiful girl you have! The lighting is even very similar. Such a cute shot!

Photo of the Week {Obsession}

How it all began…..

I got this lens on my 30th b-day from a local shop and it tranformed photography for me.  This “vintage” 50mm 1.4 was a great lens but had it’s limitations.  I had to shoot in manual mode (which I still do) and manual focus (which I don’t normally do) to be able to take photos with it.  It was a great learning experience and a lot of fun but a also a major challenge for someone just getting into photography.  It’s fun to think back to that summer.   Next in the blog circle this week is My Little Chicks Photography!

*sniff* you never forget your first loves, do you?
My fave ever lens was my first one too…. also a 50mm 1.4 (but not vintage) :)
